Why’d you get into photography?

STORY TIME KIDS…

Many of you may not know this but I went to art school for my undergrad. I focused on painting and printmaking and it was here that I fell in love with life drawing class. If you’re unfamiliar with the term think of how an old portrait master would sit with their subject for hours at a time and draw and/or paint them. I had the opportunity to meet regular people -who were not professional models but wanted to experience modelling for artist in this classical way. And yes, you guessed it 99% of the time these models were in the nude or wearing pieces of fabric just like in the classical paintings you see in galleries. The environment was not a sexual one by any means, it was a study of form, light and shape and the human body. I got to know our subjects in-between sittings. We ate our lunch in the hallways and chatted about life, reality tv and sometimes art -if it was also their thing.

After graduating, I experienced these feelings again in taking peoples portraits and it was an instant rush for me.

It’s THIS process I come back to with anyone who steps into my studio. I study them like a classical artist would. A unique human being that has their own purpose and place in this existence. I want to know all about their specials talents and passions that make them who they are and create a portrait that showcases them beautifully. It’s creating through this lens and diving into these kinds of intimate connections in our session that fills me up and gives me so much joy.

I realize now I can only do this by giving a certain calibre of service which requires extra care and time and my full attention to detail with individuals. It’s what makes Chuchi’s experience unique. My clients are not just looking for quick images they are looking for the whole experience of being studied by an artist who then creates a portrait that gives all the feels. And time and time again my client praise that they get that not only in the final product but in the experience working with me as well.

This is why I love what I do.

It’s also why I have come to the decision that I won’t take the client who is just looking for the fast headshot approach -although it sounds crazy to some people because it can be easy money… it’s just not in alignment with how I want to serve my clients.

I’m here to show you you are undoubtably, uniquely a masterpiece. AND THAT MY FRIENDS is about giving you the artist’s touch so to speak.
